Friends in Christ (Meets in Room 408)
The curriculum, The Wired Word uses current events from the week of the class meeting to provide the basis for Bible study. Each week, an event is taken from the news of that week and dealt with by using Scripture, biblical commentary, and discussion questions…helping us find some understanding to what’s happening in our world and how verses apply to everyday life!
Koinonia Class (Room 318)
The class uses the International Sunday School Lessons from the United Methodist Advocate newspaper – The Advocate reports on happenings within the South Carolina Conference, along with publishing articles about current events in addition to the Sunday School Lessons. In addition to using the Sunday school lessons, the class also discusses some of the articles in the paper.
Harry Findley Class:
This class will do a book discussion of Jerusalem, Jerusalem by James Carroll (who will be in Anderson Sept. 29th & 30th at Boulevard Baptist). The publisher is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Mary O. Holler Class (Meets in Room 230)
Adult Bible Study Book published by Cokesbury. Lessons and Daily Bible Study are based on the International Sunday School Lessons for Christian Teaching. The Fall quarterly will start September 2, 2012 and our lessons will be from Hebrews and Acts helping us define and better understand faith.

Marshall Fant Class:
The Marshall Fant Sunday School Class uses the Adult Bible Study Book published by Cokesbury. Lessons and Daily Bible Study are based on the International Sunday School Lessons for Christian Teaching. Adult Bible Study is designed to help adults understand the meaning and authority of the Bible for Christian life. The Fall quarterly will start September 2, 2012 and our lessons will be from Hebrews and Acts helping us define and better understand faith.
“Wonderful Wednesdays”
5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
WILL KICK OFF AUGUST 22ND
This is a mid-week time of fellowship and learning. We begin at 5:30 p.m. with a catered meal ($5/person or $15/family) and then followed at 6:15 p.m. with an adult class in the Parlor. Additionally, youth go to Youth Group and children go to Children’s Choir both at 6:15 p.m.
This fall we will be offering two adult classes during Wonderful Wednesdays. In addition to our regular class that meets in the Parlor, Reverend Batson will be leading a class entitled: “Beginning United Methodism” which will focus on the history and organization of the United Methodist Church. This class should be useful for those new to the United Methodist Church and will meet upstairs in the Harry Findley classroom on the 4th floor for a total of six session, August 22 through September 26.
Youth Program (6th – 12th Grades)
St. John’s Youth Program uses a Head, Heart, and Hands approach that allows the youth to learn Scripture, serve their neighbor, fellowship, and have fun with each other…This approach includes classroom lessons, service projects, and fun activities.
Sunday School (begins at 9:15 a.m.)
Various Bible studies are used that may concentrate on a book of the Bible, theme, or character.
Sunday Evening (begins at 5:45 p.m. after Youth Choir)
The youth use many different types of studies to learn about God’s Word and how it applies to their lives today, such as: movies, video, and a variety of lessons drawn from different curriculum
Youth Choir at 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday Evening
Youth Group meets at 6:15 p.m. after the Wednesday meal for fellowship and fun.
Children’s Ministry
Sunday School (begins at 9:15 a.m.)
2 and 3 year-olds use The One Room Sunday School from Cokesbury
K4 – 5th Grade will be using the new and exciting curriculum Grow, Proclaim, Serve from Cokesbury
Wednesday Evening
Children’s Choir practices on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 p.m. after the Wednesday night meal.
Additional Activities:
This year we will be adding some activities and events to our Children’s Ministry calendar. Stay tuned for activities such as picnics, movie nights, festivals, day camps, service projects and more…
Older Adult Ministry
The HAPPY GROUP offers a program of Christian fellowship, educational programs of special interest and guidance and travel. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at noon for lunch and a guest speaker in the Fellowship Hall. They also take various interesting trips and experience various activities during the year.
United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is an organized unit whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. The are six active circles who welcome women of all ages.
United Methodist Men
United Methodist Men (UMM) meet every Wednesday morning at The Meeting Place. The Breakfast starts at 8:00 a.m. and lasts about one hour. Several dinner meetings with educational programs of special interest are also planned throughout the year. Watch the Journal and St. John's Bulletin for scheduled events.
